the why behind the wander

How do you sit down and try to put into words why you want to hike 2200 ish miles, from Georgia to Maine?

Kevin and I have spent many hours discussing whether we want to hike the AT. Ironically, most of that time spent discussing was while we were already hiking some other trail, like the Tahoe Rim Trail, Kortum Trail, or on the daily walk to work. Mainly our discussions concluded that Kevin always wanted to hike the trail but I had to decide for myself whether I wanted to. To have a good mindset for such an undertaking, I knew I would have to have reasons all my own.

Through all the discussing, we finally decided to hike the Appalachian Trail. Here are some of our goals:

  • grow closer to God by seeing his creation
  • grow closer to each other
  • love every person we come in contact with

I understand these things could also be done, say sitting on a patio overlooking a nice forest while driving a cup of coffee, but for some staying still is more of a challenge than walking.
